Eriska's Wonderful Birdlife
With the longer nights the wildlife at Eriska seems far more active. In truth it is firstly because the earlier starts in the morning allows the bird life to waken us and secondly with lighter evenings and the curtains staying open longer guests notice the wonderful wildlife from the dining room with rabbits playing on the lawn, a roe deer passing towards the golf course or even one of our infamous badgers on their way out for the evening.
It is however the bird life which we notice most with the dawn chorus now growing daily, we have a flock of geese on the golf course most mornings and the herons are very evident whether on the sea shore or in their trees on the north of the island at the Heronry. Two years ago we repaired and created a track through the trees allowing guests to see these magnificent birds and over the next couple of months we plan a new track along the cliff top overlooking the nests so guests can look down on the birds while they perch on the piles of sticks which make up their nests.
