Don't make the same mistake twice!!
I returned home at the weekend full of the idea about the calenders and told Seona how we already had several prepublication orders. I immediately realized I had touched on a raw nerve! How many were you considering having printed she asked- not sure I truthfully answered. In reality my idea was to have some calendars to give to our suppliers and new year guests and if there were some extra then we could sell them. Then the idea took a bit of growth and I thought if we were organized we could print them in September and maybe we could sell them in our stables Emporium.
I was now sensing that Seona was going cold on the idea- You know they are different to books don't you. I thought fr a moment and then realized where the rebuke was going. A few years ago I was sent to organize the final proofs of the Eriska book. After a good lunch with a friend in the city I wandered round to the publishing house and was so pleased with teh final proof, and convinced that the more i ordered the less I was paying that I doubled the order. Clearly even I understood that in actual fact I was not paying less in total just less per book!
I returned home happy in a job well done and forgot to mention the order increase. Anyway I had not prepared myself for the delivery of 6000 books nor the phone call to tell me two lorries were required for the delivery due to the weight and size of the order. In the end it turned into a huge fiasco, we tipped the tractor upside down due to over loading it, we had to stall delivery by keeping some copies at the carriers in Oban, I had to ditch my bed Base and lay out piles of books as a mattress to hide them and eventually I had to make a secret passage and cupboard in my house to conceal them, however in my defense they do make excellent insulation!!
Anyway I promise to have learnt the lesson and acknowledge the whilst books do have a shelf life calenders haver a far more finite life!! So care will be adopted!!
