Designer Dilemnas

Whist there is no doubt employing a designer to help with the newest phase of the refurbishment here at Eriska is a necessary task, as I have no idea what will look good nor what colours will match as my dress sense will testify, it also has its tricky moments too as they tend to think of style well and above the practicality. here I believe is my duty to help fill the gap- sometimes simply pointing out that there will not be enough lighting on a dark night, or the misplaced light swicth. but as with everything here we try to involve as many as possible firstly so we can get as many points of view and try to avoid glaring errors but also so we can share - pass- the blame when errors occur.

Seriously we have got better and now we have less problems but yesterday we came across a blatant oversight and really there was no one person to blame but we could all take shared responsibility and more importantly we had to resolve the issue. One of our rooms, Tanera, is located on the top floor and over the years has had many guises from a staff room to a family room to a large suite but this time I believe the designers have come up trumps and have given it a real warmth and comfort- but that was until we tried to get the new furniture in through a slight zig zag in the corridor and found that neither the walls would bend nor the large cabinet twist so we were left scratching our heads.

Anyway thinking outside the box led us to thinking outside the house and we persuaded the decorator to lend a hand and more importantly his hydraulic lift so this morning the cabinet was winched up the outside of te building and back inside through the window. Whilst many things could have gone wrong and disaster could have beset us the outcome was success and flush with success they even delivered their sandwiches and some materials to the room the same way - hence saving the climb up two flights of stairs decadent but not mentioned as we were relieved that the next suggestion was to cut the cabinet in half and then glue it back together!! All done and we won't tell Chay how it was done so when he comes to move it at the next refurbishment he will have to scratch his head!!
